Minister of State Sean Connick, TD

Sean Connick was appointed Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food with special responsibility for Fisheries and Forestry on 23 March 2010.  Sean is a native of New Ross, County Wexford and was first elected to Dáil Éireann in June 2007. Sean is the first wheelchair user elected to Dáil Éireann.

Sean has previously served as Vice Chairman on the Oireachtas Committee on European Scrutiny, Government Covenor on the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Affairs and was also a Member of the Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Sports, Tourism, Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs. Sean also served as Chairman of the Fianna Fail Parliamentary Party Justice Policy Committee.

 

Sean was first elected to the New Ross Town Council in 1999. He was elected to Wexford County Council in 2004 and also in the same year was re-elected to the New Ross Town Council.  He was also President of the Association of Municipal Authorities of Ireland in 2005 and 2006.

 

Before being elected as a Public Representative Sean was involved in the motor trade in the family run business, John Connick¿s Fiat and Lancia Main Dealer.  He was also involved in the music industry and part owned the Grape Vine record label.  In latter years Sean was involved in warehousing and distribution.  

 

Sean was born in August 1964 in New Ross and educated at CBS secondary School, New Ross, Co. Wexford.  He has a Professional Certificate in Business Management. Sean is a wheelchair user as a result of a road accident. He is married to Lourde.
