Allocation of Additional Milk Quota to support the development of High Value and Specialist Milk Products

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is committed under the Agri Vision 2015 action plan to strengthen measures to support the development of high value and specialist milk products.  In accordance with this commitment the Department provides additional quota to milk producers who supply milk to this sector.

AMOUNT OF QUOTA AVAILABLE

Each application for quota is assessed on its own merits with consideration given to the level of production involved and the amount of his/her own quota that a supplier is prepared to commit to that production.

CONDITIONS

In order to qualify for additional milk quota applicants must already have quota allocated to a qualifying Milk Purchaser or be producing high value or specialist milk products for direct sale.

Where a producer ceases to supply milk to the Milk Purchaser where they received the quota or discontinues the production of high value or speciality milk products for direct sale, the quota will revert to the National Reserve.

Where a producer ceases milk production the additional milk quota will revert to the National Reserve except where the producer transfers his/her dairy enterprise to a successor by way of inheritance or by a process akin to inheritance (but not for sale).

The additional quota may not be sold, transferred or leased and may not be surrendered under a Temporary Leasing Scheme.  Where a producer sells all or part of his/her milk quota, all of the additional quota received will revert to the National Reserve.

APPLICATIONS

Applications should be sent to Milk Policy Division (Milk Quotas), Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Agriculture House, Kildare St., Dublin 2. (Tel: 01 6072683).
